Civic Training Coordinator plans, coordinates and implements short-term trainings on civic education topics (such as human rights, rule of law, good governance and leadership skills, leader responsibilities, participation, conflict and peace) targeting South Sudanese refugees and host community. Essential part of work is to be able to design training packages and materials.

Key tasks:
• Design and develop training packages, programs and related materials on civic matters for leaders and peace committees.
• Review and amend existing leadership training materials to suit the project needs.
• Conduct short-term modular trainings on civic matters for leaders and peace committees.
• Build capacity of refugee and host community leaders with civic competence and skills to participate to the development and maintenance of democratic governance and citizenship.
• Encourage and facilitate linkages between law enforcement and community leaders to perform their duties under the rule of law.
• Assist and encourage the community leaders in the implementation of civic education topics and activities in their communities.

Other tasks:

• Collect, analyse and process data on project activities for reporting and corrective actions.
• Ensure that plans and implementation incorporate gender, disability, HIV, environment and climate issues.
• Contribute to advocacy and information work.
• Support the project staff and Manager in reviewing reports and ensure timely submission of high-quality reports.
• Assist in implementation of the social cohesion activities such as intra- and intercommunity dialogues and sessions.

Qualifications and competencies:

• Bachelor’s degree in Community Development / Conflict and Peace Studies / Social Studies / Education / Development Studies or other relevant field.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience as a trainer and educator, especially on leadership and civic issues.
• Experience on developing and designing training materials and packages is a must.
• Knowledge of Arabic, Dinka, Nuer and / or Madia language is desirable.
• Experience and willingness in working in field situations in rural areas independently.

Job purpose:
M & E Officer coordinates and plans all data collection, develops tools for indicator performance tracking, creates databases, builds capacity of staff to use M & E tools and conducts data analysis and quality assurance.

Key tasks:

• Design and develop data collection tools and databases for the project.
• Review and revise the planned project indicators, collection tools, baselines and other studies.
• Develop annual M & E Plan, implement the roll out in the project and keep track of performance and progress.
• Create data management system for collection, storage, filing, access, back-ups.
• Manage, process and analyse data, and present it in visual form for use of information sharing, awareness raising, feedback and reporting.

Other tasks:

• Build capacity of staff and partners on their roles and technical skill in regard of data collection, monitoring and evaluation.
• Put in place and maintain proper filing system for easy retrieval of records following the FRC Data Management protocols and routinely back up data.
• Conduct field spot checks and visits to validate and verify accuracy of activities and data collected.
• Support the Project Manager to ensure that donor, partner and management data queries and needs are addressed.
• Support project staff and Manager in reviewing reports and ensure timely submission of high-quality reports.

Qualifications and competencies:

• Bachelor or preferably Masters’ degree in Monitoring and Evaluation / Statistics / Project Management with strong hands-on-experience on M & E.
• Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in a similar position.
• Competency in Microsoft Office package, Kobo Collect, Power Bi and Word.
• Knowledge of Swahili, Arabic, Dinka, Nuer and / or Madia language is desirable.
• Experience and willingness in working in field situations in rural areas independently.

Role overview
Working at project location – In this role, you will provide on-site support in the project location and/or VSO office, (full-time unless otherwise specified) for a set period of time.
In collaboration with the District Education Office and the CPTC train, mentor and coach caregivers, EDC facilitators and teachers, head teachers and deputy head teachers in ECCE, EDC, and early grade inclusive teaching methodology and strengthen capacity school governance structures that facilitates improvement of learning achievements in literacy and numeracy.

Skills, qualifications and experience
Essential:
Knowledge/qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree Special Needs, Inclusive Quality Education, Special Needs education, in Education, Teacher Education or related discipline
• Knowledge and understanding of teacher education system and teacher policies in the Ugandan context

Experience:
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in the field of quality and inclusive education especially working as a disability and inclusive adviser is a must
• Experience working with children with disabilities at classroom, community and national levels is required.
• Previous experience implementing a teacher development focused project will be an added advantage

Task description
Under the technical supervision of the Commissioner, Youth and Children Affairs or his/her designated mandated representative(s) and the administrative supervision of the Team Leader for the Inclusive and Sustainable Growth Programme at UNDP Uganda. The UNV YouthConnekt Officer will: a) Linkages and Development of strategic documents
• Support the formulation of a YouthConnekt – Uganda strategic plan
• Draft workplans and support coordination of approaches to support the implementation of the YouthConnekt Uganda Chapter
• Support Ministry in establishing and developing strong partnerships with relevant governmental and non-governmental organizations and relevant projects.
• Draft monitoring schedules
• Enhance collaboration at the national, regional, and global level b) Mobilize youth and support implementation
• Prepare youth events and provide operational support,
• Mobilize, organize and enhance participation of youth in development processes and including national and regional youth events
• Promote decent employment by connecting young people to potential stakeholders, markets and employment opportunities through skills development, entrepreneurship, mentorship, and networking opportunities.
• Promote rights, gender equality & equity and youth empowerment in the development process.
• Assist young entrepreneurs to get information on enterprise development and knowledge about funding.
• Identify existing business incubators and support the formation of Alliance of Business Incubators in Uganda c) Knowledge Building and management
• Support development of content for setting up a YouthConnekt – Uganda website
• Draft progress reports highlighting the innovative ideas, interventions, and impact updates on the SDGs’ implementation etc.
• Support development and sharing of information and knowledge products including lessons learnt. d) Undertake any other related tasks as may be needed or assigned by the Commissioner of Youth and Children Affairs and or Team Leader for the Inclusive and Sustainable Growth Programme at UNDP Uganda Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers shall dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day).
• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country.
• Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results, and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly arrived UN Volunteers.
• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible. Results/Expected Outputs:
• An operational YouthConnekt Uganda Office
• Fully functional youth entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem

Nationality
Candidate must be a national or legal resident of the country of assignment.

Requirements
Required experience
5 years of experience in national and/or international level engagement in youth programming or other relevant programmes. Experience in youth related projects/initiatives is an asset Experience working in government and the UN or other international development organizations. Computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment.
