We are glad to introduce our internship programme that is designed for individuals who are looking to work in a dynamic, global organization. The programme comprises of functional projects which the intern will be assigned over a period of 1 year (October 2022 to October 2023). Along with accomplishing challenging tasks every day, the intern will receive coaching from the assignment / line manager through a structured plan and defined set of deliverables, to grow both business and leadership capabilities.
The Trade Marketing and Distribution Internship is a Field role. The Intern will go through rotations within the different markets in the country, working for a set time with each regional TM&D team.

Essential experience, skills and knowledge
• We expect you to have graduated from the university within the last 1 year. We are looking for someone who is a self-starter, open to learning, a creative thinker with a can-do attitude.
• You will need to have excellent communication skills, to be dependable, collaborative and willing to learn and to share ideas.

Job Purpose:
1. Manage and drive the implementation of retail marketing programs on fuels, refueling and lubricants in Uganda and deliver on time, in full, within budget, and in line with the programs stated objectives. Feed learning’s back to the OU and Pan Africa Retail teams.
2. With the Pan Africa Marketing team translate VIVO ENERGY Uganda marketing plans into SUL Retail Marketing plans and manage budgets.
3. Drive the development of marketing competencies within the Retail team in Uganda.
4. Through effective selection and implementation of marketing programs contribute towards achievement of SUL Retail volume, margin, Nibiat, market share and BSP targets.

Organisation:
Principal accountabilities:

1. Implement the annual retail-marketing and B2B calendar for fuels, refueling and lubricants in Uganda and deliver on time, in full, within budget, and in line with the respective initiatives’ stated objectives.
2. Interface with the Pan Africa Marketing team and provide local level input into annual marketing plans
3. Assist the marketing managers in translating VIVO ENERGY Uganda marketing plans into OU plans and fully own implementation of the plans within OU including timelines, budget and overall integration and efficiency.
4. Continuously monitor and report on implementation of plans in OU, intervene when plan timelines and performance targets are not being met, update VIVO ENERGY Uganda centers of excellence on plan performance, and resolve under-performance when necessary.
5. Distribute budget for all marketing activity, planned or unplanned, within the region, ensuring activities are in line with OU marketing targets, budget plans and accountabilities are understood and executable.
6. In consultation with VIVO ENERGY Uganda marketing develop and implement OU specific programs as appropriate to improve Shell competitive position and advantage on both fuels and lubricants.
7. Provide marketing support to Convenience Retailing programs
8. Lead OU marketing research activities, evaluate findings and develop action plans from the results.
9. Translate fuels pricing strategy into a consistent and specific local level pricing strategy, ensuring achievement of margin and volume targets specified in the marketing plan.
10. Transfer information on local pricing strategy to local Operations Support within Sales and Operations and monitor compliance with pricing strategy across all classes of trade within area of responsibility.
11. Conduct PIRs for marketing campaigns.
12. Coordinate and share the local retail weekly highlights.
13. HSSE: To possess a thorough knowledge of the HSE - MS and how it applies to staff, contractors and customers and their work activities.

Key challenges:
1. Delivering results in the new organization that is undergoing significant change and ensuring strategies are implemented without direct reports in the OU.
2. Managing interfaces with ABM’s, other retail team members and departments effectively
3. Continuously seeking to simplify and standardize processes to ensure effectiveness and ease of implementation.
4. Working with a Pan Africa Organization and complying with Global Standards while effectively delivering at the local level.

Job knowledge, skills & experience
1. Demonstration of the aspired Enterprise First behaviors (Leadership, Accountability, Teamwork) and Shell core values (Honesty, Integrity, Respect for People)
2. Marketing or related field degree with at least 5 years’ experience
3. Strong Marketing Experience (including brand building, concept development, financial accountability, development, and implementation of big marketing programs).
4. Knowledge on project management skills, able to handle multiple projects at a time.
5. Strong team member with excellent communications skills
6. Methodical and converge on operational details - must have an eye for details
