Volcanoes National Park is the Rwanda section of the more extended Virunga conservation area shared between Uganda, Rwanda and Congo DRC. It is named after the chain of eight volcanoes which make its territory, including Karisimbi, Mikeno, Muhabura/Muhavura, Visoke, Sabinyo, Gahinga, Nyiragongo and Nyamuragira. This trek offers is packaged in special way that clients are able to choose an activity of their choice and this includes tracking the endangered Golden monkeys, visiting the Dian Fossey Museum the American primatologist whose work has lead to the present conservation of Mountain Gorillas, the Ultimate Mountain Gorilla tracking Experience and an adventurous hike to one the volcanoes.

4 day Itinerary

DAY 1 Kigali
On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by the representative and transferred to the hotel for the overnight in BB, Flame Tree Village Hotel / The Manor Hotel. (Supplement for Hotel Des Milles Collines / Kigali Serena Hotel) BB
DAY 2 Kigali – Volcanoes National park
Full Board After breakfast, we organise a short city tour of the capital town of Rwanda. After lunch, in the afternoon leave in the direction of Volcanoes National Park. It takes about 3 hours drive. Dinner and overnight at Five Volcanoes Boutique Hotel / Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (C) or Le Bamboo Gorilla Lodge / Da Vinci Lodge (E). Supplement for Bisate Wilderness Camp / Virunga Lodge.
DAY 3 Gorilla tracking / other activity in the Park of the Volcanoes (optional)
Full Board Early in the morning after breakfast there will be a briefing by the RDB rangers to start a trek in the Park of the Volcanoes. The activity is chosen from (see supplements): 1. Trekking of mountain gorillas inside the tropical mountain forest of the Volcanoes National Park. You reach the starting point of the walk depending on the gorilla family that is assigned by the park authority in the redistribution of the available gorilla permits. You will bring a packed lunch with you, a light rain jacket and a trekking scarped jacket. 2. Trekking of endemic golden monkeys. 3. Visit the Old Karisoke Research Center to see the tombs of Dian Fossey and the gorillas. 4. Trekking on Mount Visoke. This walk is quite more challenging, being the peak of Mount Visoke at 3,711 meters. The walk lasts until late afternoon and brings with it a packed lunch. The Visoke is an extinct volcano that is part of the Virunga chain. In the afternoon (if time is left) we recommend visiting one of the ecotourism projects in the local communities, including the Gorilla Guardian village Iby'Iwacu Cultural Village in Kinigi, a way to get a closer look at people's lives, traditions and customs and also for to be able to attend the Intore dances. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight, Mountain Gorilla View Lodge / Five Volcanoes Hotel (C) or Le Bamboo Gorilla Lodge / Da Vinci Lodge (E). Supplement for Bisate Wilderness Camp / Virunga Lodge.
DAY 4 Other activity in the Park of the Volcanoes (optional)
Half Board After breakfast optional trekking activity (see the options and prices). Packed lunch. In the afternoon drive back to Kigali. Possible transfer to Kigali International Airport.
